At dawn, on August 4, 1944, in the dried up river of Hamosternas in Tavros district of Athens, 15 man were executed by German soldiers, following the recommendation of a Greek Nazi collaborator. Eleven of the executed were Roma. The artwork “Monument” represents and negotiates with the conservation and reproduction of the memory of that incident, both on behalf of the people of Tavros district and the Roma. Through the narratives, we see reflections of the national projection made by both sides, of the ways through which social identities are conflicting, as well as how an “unimportant”, collective story of the people at the bottom of the social pyramid, the outcast Roma, seldom is included in the official historiography.

"Μνημείο" (έργο σε εξέλιξη)

 

Τα ξημερώματα της 4ης Αυγούστου του 1944, στο ρέμα της Χαμοστέρνας στον Ταύρο, οδηγούνται για εκτέλεση δεκαπέντε άτομα, από τα γερμανικά στρατεύματα κατοχής. Οι έντεκα από αυτούς είναι τσιγγάνοι, κάτοικοι του μαχαλά των Κάτω Πετραλώνων. Το έργο "Μνημείο" διαπραγματεύεται τη διατήρηση και αναπαραγωγή της μνήμης εκείνου του περιστατικού, τόσο από τη μεριά των Ταυριωτών όσο και από τη μεριά των τσιγγάνων. Μέσα στις αφηγήσεις αντικατοπτρίζονται οι εθνικές προβολές και των δύο πλευρών, οι διαδρομές μέσα από τις οποίες συγκροτούνται κοινωνικές ταυτότητες, αλλά και το πώς μία "ασήμαντη",  συλλογική ιστορία των από-τα-κάτω, των εκτοπισμένων τσιγγάνων, δύσκολα συναντιέται με την επίσημη ιστοριογραφία.
